Polly & The Billets Doux
Described as a ’sumptuous blend of jazz, blues, country, folk and gospel’, and with the ’sexiest voice in the south’ Polly & the Billets Doux grace us with songs that sound like restored blues and soul numbers with a contemporary lyrical lustre. Signed to Bleak Mouse Records last year which saw the release of UK Chart hit ‘Head of Steam’, 2008 has seen the Band have a string of sell out gigs and festival appearances including Glastonbury. Their much anticipated first album is due for release.
‘It’s a timeless sound, pure and unadorned, nothing too much and everything perfectly and effortlessly in place’ Venue Magazine
‘Polly offered a great accompaniment to the double bass and guitar, showing good range in delivering a rock n roll ‘Don’t Trouble Trouble’ and a slower, more thoughtful number that would have put Norah Jones to shame’ Ian George- Official Glastonbury website Review 2008
‘Americana. Gospel. Blues. Jazz. 50’s film starlet. Slide Guitar. Acapella. All of this melts through the songs, making each one sound so instantly familiar, yet compellingly original, as displayed on the genius re-working of ‘House of The Rising Sun’ - like the spirit of the Doors backing Nina Simone - making the song uniquely theirs. The lead guitarist even deferred fretwork duties to Polly whilst performing a brilliant harmonica interlude.’ Chris Roberts - The Winchester Massive
