review: KiNGs MEWS EP

Imagine if you will, the following scene- Prince and Stevie Wonder take a coach holiday to Brighton in a sexfunk special of Channel Four’s Coach Trip. This is the essence of the self-titled EP from KiNGS MEWS, possibly the seaside town’s funkiest residents?

And the four songs on offer here: The Favour I Did, Back Of My Mind, Oh My and Let It Go, offer a tantalising teaser, laid-back in the extreme, funky and sexy as promised. Clearly Prince was driving the aforementioned coach…………………..with Stevie a vociferous back-seat driver in the best possible sense.

KiNGS MEWS
Taking as a rough guide the ten year period yielding first For You (1978) before closing with 1988′s Lovesexy, effortless groove and panache easily ‘ The Artist’ s Forte. But we can’t let the purple-suited pervert take all the credit now, can we?

Mellowing things a little you can hear Stevie jostling for position- anything from around Music Of My Mind ( 1972) to 1976′s Songs In The Key Of Life thrown into the melting pot for consideration.

Put simply, your summer starts here.
