Seán McGowan to officially open the Strummer of Love Festival this weekend

After topping the Strummerville DIY chart for most of 2012, it has been announced this week that Seán McGowan has been confirmed to open Strummer of Love, the one-off festival that pays tribute to Joe Strummer, 10 years to the anniversary of his death.

The festival, which features The Pogues, Billy Bragg, Frank Turner and The Justice Tonight Band (ft Mick Jones, Pete Wylie and The Farm) takes place from  tomorrow, 16th -19th August 2012.  Other local acts confirmed to play are Bryony Marie Fry and Huw Olesker and the Barebackers.

Seán confirmed his slot on the campfire stage a few months back now, but was delighted when he was asked to open the whole festival on the Thursday evening.  He said “It’s a great honour to be opening Strummer of Love. Just to be involved in the celebration of one of my idols life is overwhelming. Of all the festivals it has my favourite line up, I’m certain it will be incredible. It’s always a pleasure to work with Strummerville, I’m very proud of my connection with such cracking people. Can’t wait to have a few beers down me and to spend a weekend with amazing folks.

19 year old Seán, along with his sidekick, Dean Paul, has only been on the scene for just over a year and has been making waves across the south, selling out venues all over Hampshire.  He was invited by Shed Seven to open their for for them at the Bournemouth O2 Academy just over a year ago and things have looked up ever since.

Seán McGowan plays The Campfire Stage at Strummer Of Love festival tomorrow, Thursday 16th August 2012.   More information and a few tickets are still available here:  http://www.strummeroflove.com

As well as slots at Galtrés Festival, Bestival and Southsea Fest to come, Seán is due to open for Beans On Toast when he plays his biggest headline gig to date at The Scala on September 27th (tickets available here)
