Review: I Like Trains – Beacons EP

Leeds based I Like Trains, rebranded from the rather stupid iLikeTrains, release their new EP ‘Beacons‘ in October.  Taken from their new Album ‘The Shallows’, which shows a new direction from the band, who quite honestly bored me to death.

While the band have had new ideas about their sound, they have failed to come up with anything fresh, instead taking their poor representation of Joy Division and turning into a cross between Joy Division, New Order and The XX.    However, while not groundbreaking, it works and they have come up with an EP that I have found myself liking more and more as I listen to it again.

Strangely it is not title track ‘Beacons‘ which is the stand out track, ‘Rome‘ is a little gem, however much like The XX it sounds like.   The total rip off of ‘Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams‘ in ‘Easter Island‘ shows their lack of ideas, but the ability to make it sound like their own.

iLikeRipping bands iLike off!

I Like Trains play at The Cellar, Southampton on 25th October.
