review: Prince Fatty Versus The Drunken Gambler

Ah, summertime! The sun is out, the heat is scorching, and its the perfect time for a spot of dub. Well, dub, but not necessarily as we know it- a strong hip-hop influence running throughout, a theme Prince Fatty appears to be warming to. This time out it’s a cover of Ol’Dirty Bastard’s Got Your Money which brings a touch of the Bronx to a very Jamaican preserve……..and makes for an interesting mix, first attempted on 2007′s Survival Of The Fattest, his production ear as sharp as his musical sensibilities.

Prince Fatty
Laid-back is most definitely the vibe here- you can almost lay back and imagine yourself scoring runs for fun in a hastily-arranged game of beach cricket while this blares from a radio. Perhaps Fatty can join you for a few overs, even- his array of guests this time out including Hollie Cook and a veritable ‘who’s who’ of reggae greats, fashioned into a solid team, the Ottis Gibson of dub working his magic ( any cricket enthusiasts reading this will know he is the Jamaican national team coach)- howzat!
