Review: Dog is Dead – All Our Favourite Stories

Dog is DeadI’ve been excited about Dog is Dead since I first saw them at the Great Escape Festival in 2010, so have been eager to see a debut album for some time.    Taking their time with the album and creating a buzz around them over the last year has really paid off, and they have released, what is at least for me, one of the albums of the year.

Pop hooks, guitar soundscapes, dreamy harmonies, big choruses and spine tingling melodies are all present.  I keep wanting to make comparisons to the Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club, Vampire Weekend, Tribes, Two Door Cinema Club and unfortunately the Kooks, as their influences are evident throughout.   However they have taken elements from their peers and created something both unique and reassuringly familiar .

Stand out tracks are: ‘Do the Right Thing’, ‘Teenage Daughter’, ‘Talk Through the Night’, ‘Any Movement’ and ‘Burial Ground’.

A stunning debut from a band that you’ll hear a lot more of in 2013!
