Craig David announces huge hometown show
Craig David has today announced details ofhis biggest ever hometown show. He will play Hampshire cricket’s Ageas Bowl on Friday 1st September with tickets going on sale from Wednesday (pre-sale) and on general sale on Friday, 24th February at 10am.
A press conference was held at the Ageas Bowl to announce the news of Craig’s biggest hometown show, and he was clearly very excited at the prospect of coming home. Craig told the room of reporters, “There is something about the Southampton crowd that accepts me as one of their own – it really does feel like coming home. Driving down The Avenue brings back so many memories and Southampton is special to me and will always be in my heart. The show will be a mix of live band, DJ and live vocals and I can already say it will be epic.”
He also promised to make sure his family are there to enjoy the experience saying, “I wanna look after my mum and dad and make sure they fully experience this show to the full. I’ve already got an eye on one of those boxes! Having my friends and family close to me is more important than ‘look at me, look how cool I am”. He also talked about his Brit Award nomination for Best Male: “It’s great to have people like Skepta up for the same award but the person I’d really like to win is David Bowie. It was a proud moment when Bowie praised my song Hot Stuff – Let’s Dance, (Craig’s song that sampled Bowie’s Let’s Dance’) and he was such an all round inspiration”.
The Southampton superstar returns to his hometown to play his biggest, and first ever headline show at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton on 1st September 2017.
Home to Hampshire Cricket, and a vast array of events and showpiece occasions throughout the year, the Ageas Bowl, is also set to be the biggest gig Craig has headlined in his hometown, performing to 15,000 fans in the iconic outdoor bowl.
It has been the most talked about and relevant return to music by an artist in decades! 16 years after his debut album reached Number 1, Craig is back at the top with his latest album, Following My Intuition, going straight to Number 1 in the Official Albums Chart when released last year.
Sixteen years since the critically-acclaimed, ‘Born To Do It’ changed his life, Craig catapulted back into the charts and into the nation’s hearts over the last year. Craig has since leapt from strength to strength on our airwaves, and has been unavoidable on our TV screens and on the live circuit ever since.
Add to that a headline TS5 tour which sold out in seconds, selling out shows all over the globe, over 1.5 million singles sales and 117 million singles streams worldwide, a 2017 BRIT Award nomination and winning the prestigious MOBO award for Best Male Act, it would be an understatement to say that the last year has been anything short of monumental for Craig.
The concert follows a sold-out 18-date arena tour in March and April and a record-breaking ten-week summer residency with his TS5 Pool Party at Ibiza Rocks Hotel.
Expect to hear all the Craig David classics plus songs from his latest album Following My Intuition, the album that saw Craig soar to number one in the official album charts. A celebration of one of the UK’s most loved artists, back on British soil, and at the helm of his own unique, authentically British sound. A sound that made waves across the globe, making him one of the most successful artists in UK chart history, speaking to a new generation who are listening with fresh ears and sparking euphoric nostalgia in fans that have waited for his return… and now Craig David really is coming home…
